Known to the local Aboriginal people as Tulunpunga, the Alum Cliffs located to the north of Mole Creek have been a sacred celebration place for thousands of years.
The 40-50 minute return walk will take you to a forest lookout perched high above the Mersey River, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and the river below as it flows beneath the spectacular Alum Cliffs.
Traveling from Deloraine or Sheffield, the Alum Cliffs track is reached via a signed loop road off the B12 between the townships of Chudleigh and Mole Creek, where the closest facilities are located.
Visitors are advised to wear sturdy walking shoes or boots, sun hat, sun block and clothes to suit the weather of the day. Visitors must also note that the steep vertical cliffs are hazardous and children must be supervised at all times. Pets, firearms and bicycles are not permitted in this area.
For more information about the Alum Cliffs, contact the Great Western Tiers Visitor Centre located at Deloraine.
