Getting to the Great Western Tiers area Many visitors to the Great Western Tiers area approach from one of the northern ports - Launceston or Devonport by air, or by sea to Devonport on the Spirit of Tasmania. All these ports are a short drive to Great Western Tiers region.
Getting Around in Tasmania Tasmania is a relatively small island, and while there are a number of methods to travel, the two main ones are by car and by bus. There are no regular passenger train services. Bus services generally link the major centres, but transport to minor desinations can be limited.
Visitors who do not bring their own car over on the ferry often pre-book hire cars, either through a fly-drive package, or as a stand-alone once they are here. Some visitors also bring or hire bicycles or motorcycles.
