Description

Nestled in the historic township of Deloraine, Calstock Estate is one of Australia’s most important landmark estates, renowned for its impressive Georgian architecture and elegant established gardens. Heritage listed, Calstock Estate holds a richly layered history. Established in 1831, Lieutenant Pearson Foote of the Royal Navy received a land grant in the Deloraine region, naming the property after his family’s estate in Devon, England. The original homestead was convict built, using handmade bricks. In 1853, John Field acquired Calstock and significantly expanded the estate. It became a prominent agricultural hub in Tasmania, and Calstock was held by the Field family for over a century. Calstock Estate is also synonymous with Australian horseracing history. The original Stables building, painstakingly restored and reimagined as luxury accommodation, was once the birthplace of two Melbourne Cup winners: Malua in 1884, and Sheet Anchor in 1885. Spanning over 30 acres with sweeping views of the majestic Quamby Bluff, the homestead is surrounded by 12 acres of immaculately manicured gardens, curated over decades. Magnificent heritage-listed elm and oak trees give the estate a decidedly English country feel. Visitors delight in discovering winding paths framed by formal hedges, a secret walled garden; and during the warmer months, the romantic rose garden is in full bloom. An ornate outdoor rotunda provides a magical setting for weddings and intimate gatherings. Following a restoration spanning several years, current custodians Heather and Steve Cavalier are committed to preserving the legacy and beauty of Calstock for generations to come, and look forward to welcoming you.
