Description

One of the most memorable food and wine experiences in Australia

Description

Recognized for his commitment and contribution to quality food and wine in Tasmania, Josef Chromy OAM has owned and developed some of Tasmania’s leading wineries (Rochecombe (now Bay of Fires), Jansz, Heemskerk and Tamar Ridge). Josef Chromy Wines is the culmination of his experience in Tasmania’s Tamar Valley and this shines through in the quality of the wines, food and hospitality offered at his cellar door and restaurant. Set among old English gardens and stands of 100-year-old oak trees, and overlooking picturesque lakes, a winery and a 61-hectare vineyard, Josef Chromy Wines is located just a 15-minute drive south of Launceston and a short drive from the airport. Tasmania is a region on the rise and its focus is on high quality cool climate wines. Singled out by Conde Nast Traveller in 2016 as where to find the best wines in the world right now, Tasmania and Josef Chromy Wines have received numerous national and international awards including the Best Wine of Show at Australia’s Cool Climate Wine Show in 2016 and Decanter’s International Trophy at the World Wine Awards (London) for the world’s best Chardonnay in 2013. As a member of the Ultimate Winery Experiences of Australia, guests can go behind the scenes and tour the Josef Chromy winery, learn how to make traditional method sparkling wine, learn to fly fish on its lakes or helicopter in for lunch at its hatted restaurant. It is the attentive service together with the exquisite Tasmanian produce and careful attention to detail from vine to glass that has resulted in the Silver Medal at the 2016 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, and the Estate being inducted into the Tasmanian Tourism Awards Hall of Fame in November 2016. We invite visitors to share in one of the most memorable food and wine experiences in Australia.
