EXPERIENCE AUTHENTIC TASMANIAN COUNTRY LIVING JUST ONE HOUR FROM HOBART Situated in the magnificent Tasmanian Central Highland and nestled beside the stunning Derwent Valley, Rathmore is an historic sheep property settled in 1828, offering elegant heritage and rustic chic accommodation options for up to 26 guests. There are 10 bedrooms to suit your budget - self-cater in well equipped kitchens or meals are available with 48 hours notice. Owners Cally and Richard Lyons want to share the beautiful country lifestyle they have curated with you.

Stay with us in our idyllic Georgian sandstone homestead, Rathmore House. We have four guest rooms available with iron beds, electric blankets, warm wool doonas, heating or cooling and two of our guest rooms have fireplaces. Join us for dinner in our elegant dining room or at the 16 seat kitchen table; relax with a wine in our spacious and comfortable sitting room by the fireplace and toast marshmallows. Alternatively you are welcome to self-cater. SHEARERS QUARTERS Rathmore is revived historic accommodation for the adventurous. Stay in your country room with access to a shared messroom with fireplace and well equipped kitchen and communal washroom. Enjoy tamed nature, wildlife and millions of stars, explore, hike, trout fish or golf nearby. There is an outdoor campfire and BBQ. Board games are available from the homestead OR stay at RATHMORE COTTAGE. Formerly the Shearers Cooks Cottage where meals were prepared by a cook and eaten by the shearers in a large living area, this one bedroom cottage has queen bed with electric blanket, chest of drawers and bedside tables. Two single beds (original Shearers Stretchers) with electric blankets and double sofa bed are in the living area with well equipped kitchen and fireplace. There is a BBQ on the back verandah and an outdoor campfire. There is one bathroom with shower, vanity, toilet, washing machine and iron. We provide washing powder as well as a hair dryer and TV! Board games are available from the homestead.

Directions

A warning first; switch off your satellite or phone navigation and trust us. It could get you lost if you don’t. You won’t be the first to get lost in Tasmania by using technology. If travelling from Hobart, head north on the Brooker Highway towards Launceston, then follow signs for New Norfolk. When in New Norfolk, cross the bridge following signs for Hamilton and Queenstown. DO NOT take the C181 where there is a sign to Hollow Tree! There is a Blue/ Yellow sign “Rathmore Accom 7” Turn off the highway onto the B110 (Hollow Tree Road) and continue 7kms for about 10 minutes. Rathmore is one of four buildings in “Hollow Tree”, which is signposted on the left of the road. If coming from the west, 3 kms past Hamilton you will see Blue/Yellow sign “Rathmore Accom 7” & you will turn left. If coming from Bothwell there is a sign “22 Rathmore Accom” at road junction of Patrick & William St in front of the Bothwell Super Store/convenience store with a small range of groceries & BP Petrol station/convenience store. The Castle Hotel completed in 1829 and reputedly the second oldest continuously licensed hotel in Australia is next door to BP. William Street becomes B110 Hollow Tree Road heading south towards Rathmore then Hamilton. Rathmore entrance is at the junction with the C181 Marked Tree Road with reflective Blue/Yellow signs visible from all directions.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation must be made seven full days prior to the check-in time for a 50% refund of any accommodation payment requested. Within 7 days deposits and final payments are non-refundable. The reservation may be rescheduled to another equivalent period subject to availability. Guests are advised to take out comprehensive travel insurance to cater for any unforeseen circumstances.Valid proof of identity must be presented on checking in (Driver’s Licence or Passport). Please advise arrival time. Check-in to rooms from 2pm. Check-out of rooms by 10am. Early arrivals and late departures negotiable. Strictly no smoking inside buildings. Smoking must be minimum 4 metres from doorways and windows. Damage breakages theft and losses are the guest’s responsibility during their stay. Pet friendly under certain conditions. Discuss your needs with Cally when booking. Owners must guarantee good control and take full responsibility for them as Rathmore is a working farm. Lifejackets supplied must be worn if using boat & helmets supplied worn if using the 2 bicycles on the property. Use is at your own risk & we are not responsible for accidents or injuries.
